Knowing God...

Let's make it simple and personal ...

1)    RECOGNIZE HIS LOVE, HIS PLAN, AND HIS ETERNAL PEACE

"This is how much God loved the world:  He gave His Son, His one and only Son.  And this is why:  So that no one need to be destroyed; by believing in Him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life."

(John 3:16, The Message Bible)

2)    REALIZE YOUR SEPARATION FROM HIM, AND YOUR NEED FOR HIM

"For everybody has sinned and continues to come short of God's glory, but ANYBODY may have right standing with God as a FREE GIFT of His undeserved favor, through the ransom provided in Jesus Christ."

(Romans 3: 23 & 24, The New Testament in the Language of Today)

3)    RESPOND TO WHAT GOD DID FOR YOU -- THE CROSS

"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this:  While we were still sinners, Christ died (on a cross) for us."

(Romans 5:8, NIV)

4)    RECEIVE HIS FREE GIFT TO YOU -- SALVATION / ETERNAL LIFE

"For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him."

(John 3:17 NIV)

"Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God..."

(John 1:12 NIV)

"For the wages (penalty) of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

(Romans 6:23 NIV)

The invitation ...

Turn from your sins (what displeases God and separates us from Him), and by faith, receive Jesus Christ into your life and follow Him daily in obedience.

A prayer of commitment ...

Lord Jesus, I know that my sins have separated me from you.  I believe you died for me.  Please forgive me of my sins so there is no longer separation from your love.  I receive you know as my personal Lord and Savior.  Continue to show me Your ways and guide me.  Thank you for accepting me into your family, and for eternal life that only comes through your Son.

A final thought ...

Knowing (receiving) Jesus is more than just an "experience."  It is a sincere decision, and a personal and every-day relationship with the One who created you.  God could not stand to be separated from us, so He created a "bridge of salvation" so that we could have fellowship with Him.  This "bridge" was made possible by Him allowing His Son, Jesus, to be sacrificed on a cross for our sin.  Jesus' blood became the ultimate covering for our sin.  Because of this, sin can no longer separate us from God.
